Software Engineering Manager

OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Innovation department at our rapidly growing Center City, Philadelphia office. 

As a Software Engineering Manager, you would be responsible for the success of your team; ensuring that engineers are finding the right balance between speed of development and software quality attributes.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 1+ year of experience leading 5-8 direct reports in an agile environment
• Knowledge of how to proactively identify staffing gaps to support future project needs
• Experience onboarding new hires and supporting engineers with ongoing training and career development
• Direct experience working with Product Managers and other stakeholders to define scope and understand problems to be solved
• Experience as Software Engineer using Go, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript (or similar)
• An understanding of building and deploying microservices, understanding the benefits and challenges of working with a microservice-based architecture
• Experience working in a Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environment
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, RESTful systems, or GraphQL is a plus

• Understand the difference between doing agile and being agile and have experience in product delivery
• Are not afraid to take some risks and move quickly but also know when to invest in the long-term to ensure system maintainability, stability, security, and performance

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

As a Manager on our Software Engineering team, you will:

• Manage 6-8 Software Engineers in a matrixed organization and ensure that they have the appropriate opportunities to work on exciting features and achieve their professional goals
• Hold regular one on ones with team members and perform semi-annual reviews to provide an opportunity for discussion around learning and training opportunities, concerns, and upcoming work, as well as establishing and monitoring quarterly goals
• As a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, you will provide status updates regarding team performance, resource needs, challenges, wins, and the status of projects that you and your direct reports are working on
• Stay current with our tech stack, perform code reviews, participate in estimating work, and contribute to the codebase
• Work with the Product team to ensure that the work that your teams are doing is consistent with the defined scope of work while they also have the freedom to define solutions
• Work closely with Project Management to stay true to agile principles allowing teams to self-organize while also understanding team capacity, velocity, and the status of what they're working on
• Lead interview processes and make hiring recommendations for roles within the team as well as participate in maintaining our new hire onboarding process
